Veteran actor Junior Mehmood dies due to stomach cancer at 67

MUMBAI: Veteran actor Junior Mehmood, who was battling cancer, died on Thursday night at the age of 67. He breathed his last at his home in Mumbai. In his career spanning over five decades, Junior Mahmood proved his acting and comedy skills by working in more than 250 films.

Only two weeks ago, information had come to light that the actor was fighting the battle of stage 4 cancer. His health worsened on Thursday night, after which he died.

Junior Mahmood's real name was Naeem Syed. In his film career, he worked in many hit films including Kati Patang, Mera Naam Joker, Parvarish and Do Aur Do Paanch. Junior Mehmood started his career as a child artiste with the film 'Naunihaal', in which Sanjeev Kumar, Veteran actors like Balraj Sahni and Indrani Mukherjee were included. From 'Naunihaal' released in 1967 till now, the actor has created his own identity in the industry with the name of Junior Mehmood. Apart from acting in more than 250 films, the actor also produced many Marathi films.

Due to illness, Junior Mehmood had expressed his desire to meet actors Jeetendra and Sachin Pilgaonkar, after which the actors came to meet him. On Thursday, comedian and actor Johnny Lever also met Junior Mehmood.

Junior Mehmood had worked in many films with both Jeetendra and Sachin Pilgaonkar during his career. Sachin Pilgaonkar and Junior Mehmood had worked together in films like 'Bachpan', 'Geet Gaata Chal' and 'Brahmachari'. Apart from films, he was a part of many stage shows in the country and abroad.
