'We want discussion on goonda raj and SIR in Bihar': Congress President Rajesh Ram

PATNA: The opposition in Bihar demanded a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in both houses of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

During the discussion, the opposition created a ruckus in the House, after which the Speaker adjourned the proceedings of both houses until tomorrow.

Bihar Congress President Rajesh Ram, speaking on the ongoing SIR issue in Bihar, said, "This is a dark chapter for democracy. Our two issues are absolutely clear: we are continuously trying to reach out to people on the SIR issue, but the government is not listening. We want a discussion on goonda raj and SIR. We even approached the Speaker, but he gave no assurance. We will request him again tomorrow to consider this... Our fight will continue in both Lok Sabha and the Legislative Assembly."

In Bihar, opposition MLAs arrived at the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday wearing black clothes to protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list and created a ruckus in the House, demanding a discussion on the issue.

Notably, on Monday, the first day of the monsoon session, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav met the Speaker and stated that a discussion on SIR is expected, which the opposition’s ‘INDIA’ alliance is opposing, and any “laxity” on this issue will not be tolerated.

The Special Intensive Revision of the voter list is being conducted only in Bihar, which is opposed by the opposition’s ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ (INDIA). Assembly elections are due in Bihar in a few months.
