130th Constitutional Amendment Bill Malicious, Alleges Kharge

(Fast Mail):-- Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has targeted the Modi government at the Center over the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill.

On Monday, Kharge claimed that there could be a hidden motive behind the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill, as if any Chief Minister is removed from office after spending 30 days in jail, then why worry about elections?

He also alleged that an attempt is being made to snatch people's voting rights in the name of electoral reforms.

On the occasion of International Democracy Day, Kharge posted on 'X', "Over the past 11 years, a conspiratorial attempt has been made by RSS-BJP to hollow out India's long-cherished and hard-earned democracy."

He claimed that electoral manipulation is being used as a weapon to snatch the most important right to vote enshrined in the Constitution, under the guise of "reforms."

The Congress President said, "From depriving millions of people, especially vulnerable sections, of their voting rights through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar to the deplorable 'vote theft' exposed by Rahul Gandhi, the BJP has consistently and strategically undermined the integrity of elections."

Kharge claimed, "The real game could be in the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill. This proposal allows the Center to topple elected state governments by labeling them 'corrupt,' which can easily be assessed by agencies already under BJP's control."

He added, "When you can legally sack elected Chief Ministers within 30 days, why worry about elections? This seems to be the message."

He further stated, "Therefore, on this International Democracy Day, let us reaffirm our pledge to protect our constitutional institutions from the clutches of RSS-BJP."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had introduced the 'Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025,' 'Union Territories Governance (Amendment) Bill, 2025,' and 'Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025' in the Lok Sabha amid opposition protests and uproar during the last monsoon session.

Later, on his proposal, the House decided to refer all three bills to a Joint Parliamentary Committee.

The Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025 includes provisions to remove the Prime Minister, Ministers, and Chief Ministers from office in cases of serious criminal charges.

The Joint Parliamentary Committee will consist of 21 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha, and it will submit its report by the last day of the first week of the next parliamentary session.
