4th Asian Kho Kho Championship concludes, Indian men and women teams become champions
In the final, the Indian men's team defeated Nepal by 6 points and an innings while the Indian women's team also won the title by defeating Nepal by 33 points and an innings. Earlier in the semi-finals, the Indian men's team defeated the Sri Lankan team by 45 points, while Nepal beat Bangladesh by 12 points. These results show that the Indian teams were in excellent form throughout the tournament, and they maintained their winning streak even in the crucial knockout matches.
In the semi-finals of the women's category, India defeated Bangladesh by 49 runs and an innings. In the other semi-final, Nepal registered a comfortable victory over Sri Lanka by 59 points and an innings. In the men's and women's categories, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh jointly shared the third position.
On the title win, Indian men's team captain Akshay Bhangre has said that he is very excited and happy to win this championship, which is the reward of his hard work and dedication towards the game. This win will give a huge mental boost to the team and will motivate them to take up the responsibility with more enthusiasm and zeal in the upcoming tournaments.
Akshay said, "As an Indian, the experience of winning a game that started in India is wonderful. At the same time, it is also encouraging to see participating countries doing so well in matches."
He thanked the crowd of Tamulpur for supporting the teams in the tournament, saying, "It was a very good atmosphere here. Support of spectators is always important. It motivates the players to give their best."
Ranjana Sarania, who represented the Indian women's team in the tournament, was felicitated during the closing ceremony.
A total of 16 teams (both men and women) were involved in the event. The participating countries were Bangladesh, Bhutan, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka and host India.
The tournament was organized by the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) and hosted by the Assam Kho Kho Association (AKA) supported by the government of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
The Government of Assam had also expressed its support for this competition. Around 500 players and officials were part of the event.
The matches were played on mats in an indoor stadium built at the Tamulpur Higher Secondary School. The stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 7000 people.
