4th Asian Kho Kho Championship: Indian men and women teams in semi-finals
Tamulpur, Mar 23, (Fast Mail News):-- The Indian men's team on Wednesday defeated Nepal to enter the semi-finals of the ongoing 4th Asian Kho Kho Championship at Tamulpur in Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) in Assam.
On the third day, the Indian men defeated Nepal by 18 points. At the end of two innings, India scored 67 points while Nepal's score was 49.
India could score 36 points in the first innings as against Nepal's 22 points while in the second innings India scored 31 points and Nepal scored 27 points. India's Shreyas G showed some aggression from the start of the match which helped his team get some crucial points.
After the win, Indian team captain Akshay Bhangre said that they need to improve their coordination in the next match.
"The coordination was not satisfactory in today's match. We need to improve. We need to put in a lot of effort," Akshay said.
He also termed Sri Lanka as a tough opponent.
Akshay said, "Sri Lanka is a good team as an opponent in the semi-finals. We respect our opponents. We are here to win the championship."
Speaking on the overwhelming support in Tamulpur, Akshay said that such enthusiasm for the sport was wonderful.
He said, "The crowd was very good. I thank the people of Tamulpur for coming in large numbers to support us. Such enthusiasm will now increase the interest towards the sport in urban areas."
In other men's matches, South Korea won against Indonesia by 11 points and Bhutan defeated Iran by 5 points.
In the last match of the day, Indian women also defeated Bhutan.
In other women's matches, Sri Lanka beat Malaysia by 34 points and an innings to enter the semi-finals and Nepal won against Bangladesh by 14 points.
The semi-final lineup has been decided at the end of the third day. In the men's section, India will face Sri Lanka while Bangladesh will play against Nepal in the other semi-final.
In the women's section, India will face Bangladesh while Nepal will face Sri Lanka in the other semi-final. The closing ceremony will take place today evening.
