India women’s cricket team advanced to the semi-final of the Asian Games Women’s Cricket Competition 2023 after the match was abandoned against Malaysia women due to rain in Quarter-final 1 today.
Put into bat first, India posted 173/2 in a 15-over-a-side game. Openers Smriti Mandhana (27) and Shafali Verma put on a 57-run stand. After the dismissal of Smriti, Shafali and Jemimah Rodrigues forged an 86-run stand for the second wicket, giving India a solid platform to set the target. Shafali went on to score a magnificent 39-ball 68, including four fours and five sixes, before she was dismissed in the last ball of the 13th over.
Jemimah and Richa Ghosh put on a quick 30-run stand to take India to a 170-plus total. Jemimah scored a solid 29-ball 47*, striking six fours, while Richa added a quickfire 7-ball 21.
Malaysia’s Mahirah Izzati Ismail and Mas Elysa picked up a wicket each.
When the chase began, only two balls were bowled, with Malaysia scoreboard reading 1/0 when rain poured down to halt the game and was eventually called off.
