Axiom-4 Mission Launched: Shubhanshu Shukla Sent Message From Space;Says 'Entire India Is with Me'

(Fast Mail):--Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, along with three other astronauts, has embarked on a journey to the International Space Station (ISS). The four astronauts boarded the Dragon spacecraft at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center as part of a commercial mission by Axiom Space.

After multiple delays, the Axiom-4 mission took off at 12:01 PM, welcomed by people worldwide. Shukla’s parents witnessed this historic flight from his alma mater, City Montessori School, in his hometown of Lucknow.

Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, the pilot of the Axiom-4 mission, shared his first message after the launch:

"Greetings, my dear countrymen! What a journey! After 41 years, we are back in space once again. This is an incredible journey. We are orbiting Earth at a speed of 7.5 kilometers per second. The tricolor on my shoulder reminds me that I am with all of you. This journey is not just the beginning of my time at the International Space Station (ISS) but the start of India’s human space programme. I want you all to be part of this journey. Your chests should swell with pride... Let us together mark the beginning of India’s human space program. Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!"

Born in Lucknow, Shukla is joined by NASA astronaut and former mission commander Peggy Whitson, Hungarian astronaut Tibor Kapu, and Poland’s S?awosz Uzna?ski-Wi?niowski on the Axiom-4 mission.

Shukla has become the first Indian astronaut to travel to the International Space Station. Forty-one years ago, in 1984, India’s Rakesh Sharma spent eight days aboard the Soviet Union’s Salyut-7 space station.

In a video message, Rakesh Sharma said, "Greetings from India. Have fun, friends." NASA stated that the docking is scheduled for Thursday, June 26, at approximately 4:30 PM IST.
