Bulldozers for Dalits and the Poor ; Free Land for Adani, This is the Gujarat Model: Rahul Gandhi

PATNA: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, targeted the BJP government on Wednesday over the demolition of a poor settlement in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

The Congress leader stated that bulldozers are used for Dalits, backward classes, and the poor, while thousands of acres of land are given to Adani for free or for just 1 rupee. This is the Gujarat Model.

Rahul Gandhi referred to the demolition of 400 homes in the Pethapur slum settlement in Gandhinagar, terming it the 'Gujarat Model' and saying that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wants to implement it across the country.

He shared a video of the demolished homes and accused the ruling BJP of giving away thousands of acres of land to capitalists for free.

The Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha said, "The Gujarat Model is clear—bulldozers for Dalits, backward classes, and the poor, while Adani gets thousands of acres of land for free or just for one rupee."

He said that in Gandhinagar's Pethapur settlement, homes of more than 400 families were demolished by labelling them as  'illegal,' even though they had valid identification and records such as electricity bills, tax receipts, ration cards, Aadhaar cards, and voter ID cards.

He claimed that not only in Gujarat, but similar demolition incidents are continuously occurring in Delhi and other parts of the country.

The Congress leader said that, like in many cases, people in Gandhinagar also had stay orders from the courts. Despite this, the demolition action took place.

Rahul Gandhi said, "The BJP clearly knows that they cannot form a government through a genuine public mandate. Their government is formed through theft and by capturing institutions. Therefore, they snatch away the rights of the poor and hand over the country's assets to their handful of billionaire friends."

He added that India's democracy is for the rights of the people, and it will run for them, and we will not allow the BJP and its friends to loot the country.
