Bus accident on Old Mumbai-Pune highway, 12 killed, 29 injured
Mumbai, Apr 15, (Fast Mail News):-- Twelve passengers lost their lives in a bus accident at Khopoli on the Old Mumbai-Pune Highway in Maharashtra's Raigad district in the wee hours of Saturday. 29 people have been injured. The condition of many of the injured is critical. Therefore, there is a possibility of increasing the death toll. This is a Sukhkarta Travels bus. Expressing grief over the accident, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced an assistance of Rs five lakh to each dependent. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered the district administration to investigate the cause of the accident.
Fadnavis has said that this bus was coming from Pune to Mumbai. There were a total of 41 people in it. The bus suddenly fell into the Borghat ditch, 150 feet below the road. The rescue team has taken out 12 bodies and 29 injured. The injured include two children, three women and 24 men. 18 are being treated at Rabale's MGM Hospital, 10 at Khopoli Municipal Hospital and one injured at a private hospital.
Highway Traffic Police Superintendent Tanaji Chikhle said that the people of Goregaon's Prabhu Vadak group were returning from Pune to Mumbai by this bus. So far one deceased has been identified as Jui Sawant (15). Trying to identify others.
He said that the identity of the five injured could not be ascertained.
