Donald Trump’s Ambitious Bill Passed by US Congress: Key Changes and Implications
The bill has now received approval from both chambers of Congress (the House and the Senate) and has been sent to President Trump for his signature.
The bill passed in the House with a close vote of 218-214. Two Republicans joined the Democratic Party, which had been opposing the bill, in voting against it.
Democratic Party leader and New York Representative Hakeem Jeffries delivered a record-breaking speech lasting over eight hours to delay the vote on the bill.
House Speaker Mike Johnson stated, “We have a big job to do. With one big, beautiful bill, we’re going to make this country stronger, safer, and more prosperous than ever before.”
What is the Bill, and What Does it Include?
This new bill aims to make the 2017 tax cuts permanent and is considered highly significant. It includes approximately $4.5 trillion in tax cuts. Senior citizens are likely to receive tax deductions of up to $6,000.
The Child Tax Credit may be increased to $2,200. Additionally, $350 billion is allocated for border security.Cuts to Medicaid and food assistance programs are highlighted as key features of the bill. The debt ceiling is also expected to be raised by $5 trillion.
