Congress Slams PM Modi's Silence on Gaza Massacre' as Shameful

NEW DELHI: The Congress party on Monday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “silence” on the “massacre” in Gaza of being not only disappointing and shameful but also against the ideals India has always upheld.

Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh further claimed that the Indian government is reluctant to make any statement or take any action that could impact the “friendship” between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and PM Modi. There has been no response yet from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party or the government on Congress’s allegations.

In the 21-month-long war between Israel and Hamas, over 58,000 Palestinians have been killed.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu was in Washington last week to discuss an agreement with the administration of US President Donald Trump. However, a new issue on the deployment of Israeli troops during a ceasefire has raised questions about the feasibility of a new agreement.

Jairam Ramesh posted on X, “The massacre being carried out by Israel in Gaza has not stopped; rather, it is becoming more horrific and brutal. Voices of dissent are emerging even within Israel. Recently, a former Israeli Prime Minister also expressed serious concern over this.”

He claimed that the Indian government is completely silent on this tragedy.

Ramesh further alleged, “The government is unwilling to issue any statement or take any step that could affect the friendship between Netanyahu and Modi. The Prime Minister’s silence is not only disappointing and shameful but also contrary to the ideals India has always stood for.”
