Congress Files Petition in Supreme Court Against Voter List Revision in Bihar, Hearing Scheduled for July 10

NEW DELHI:The controversy over the revision of the voter list in Bihar ahead of the state assembly elections has now reached the Supreme Court.

The Congress, along with nine other opposition parties, has challenged the Election Commission's controversial exercise in the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court has accepted the opposition's petition and listed the case for hearing on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

Providing details, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera posted on X, "The Congress, along with nine other opposition parties, has challenged the Election Commission's 'flawed and destructive' special intensive revision in the Supreme Court.

This is an exercise whose malicious and arbitrary process raises serious concerns about the deletion of a large number of voters' names from the voter list. The entire opposition stands united against this anti-people exercise.

The Supreme Court has listed the matter for hearing on July 10. Satyamev Jayate."The issue of the voter list has heated up ahead of the Bihar assembly elections. Today, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge stated that the Modi government is set to ruin everyone”.

He alleged that the Modi government first inflated the voter list by 75 lakh votes in Maharashtra and is now tampering with the voter list in Bihar by attempting to remove 2 crore votes before the elections.

He warned that if elections are conducted in this manner, the government will regret it one day. "For us, the country is paramount. If the country and the Constitution are safe, we are safe. If the country is not safe, we will not be safe. It is our duty to protect the Constitution and keep the country united.

This is what Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, and Rajiv Gandhi, who sacrificed his life for unity, taught us."The Congress claims that the Election Commission is conducting a voter list verification in Bihar, asking people to show documents, but these do not include Aadhaar cards or voter IDs.

In a post on the social media platform X, Congress wrote, "This puts crores of voters in Bihar at risk of being excluded from the voter list, which is sheer injustice. This is a conspiracy to snatch away the right to vote, orchestrated by the government and the Election Commission together."

Similarly, other opposition parties have also approached the Supreme Court with allegations.

The petitions state, "The Election Commission's decision is arbitrary, and it will deprive lakhs of voters in Bihar of their voting rights."

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the petitions challenging the Election Commission's decision on the "special intensive revision" of the voter list in Bihar. The hearing is scheduled for July 10.
