CM Abdullah Attends Funeral of Syed Adil Hussain, Who Confronted Terrorists to Protect Tourists in Pahalgam, Praises His Bravery
Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who ferried tourists on mules, was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Hapatnard village, Pahalgam, where hundreds of mourners bid him a tearful farewell and saluted his sacrifice.
Abdullah wrote on X, “I reached Pahalgam to offer 'Fateha' (post-burial prayer) for Shah. He was shot dead while trying to snatch a weapon from a terrorist during a courageous attempt to save tourists. He was taking tourists on mules from the parking area to Baisaran.”
In a post shared by his office on X, the Chief Minister wrote, “Met Shah’s grieving family and assured them of full support. Adil (Shah) was the sole breadwinner, and his extraordinary bravery and sacrifice will always be remembered.”
Naushad added that the terrorists shot Shah three times in the chest. He described his brother’s sacrifice as a “moment of pride” for the family and friends.
Shah’s sister, Asma, said they learned about his killing around 10 p.m. on Tuesday. “In the morning, I told him not to go there as I had a feeling something bad would happen. But he didn’t listen and left,” she said.
Shah’s father, Syed Haider Shah, expressed deep sorrow over his son’s killing. “He was the youngest and kindest among all siblings. He left at 8 a.m. and never returned. Many boys from this village go to Pahalgam for work, but who knew this would happen? The terrorists killed my son just because he confronted them and asked them not to harm the tourists,” he said.
Haider noted that there is no mobile connectivity in Baisaran. “When he didn’t return in the evening, we started calling him, but no one answered,” he said.
