Congress claims PM Modi lacks courage to face direct press questions

NEW DELHI: On Sunday, the Congress party targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that he lacks the courage to face direct questions from the press, unlike his predecessors. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, in a post on the social media platform 'X', stated, "Every head of state holds press conferences from time to time. But it has been 11 years since our Prime Minister faced direct questions from the press."

He further remarked, "During last year's election campaign, Narendra Modi produced, directed, and scripted media interactions like a show—where he made the controversial claim of being 'non-biological.' However, he has never shown the courage to hold a single unedited, unscripted, genuine press conference."

Ramesh added, "This is in stark contrast to his predecessors, whom he particularly despises. They held fearless press conferences almost every other month, facing tough questions and responding with seriousness and restraint. Such traditions of dialogue have strengthened the foundations of our democracy."

The Congress has frequently accused Modi of avoiding media interactions since assuming the role of Prime Minister in 2014.
