Congress Slams Odisha BJP Govt For Observing Its Anniversary When 270 Killed In Plane Crash

 By Jagadananda Pradhan

(Fast Mail): On Monday, the Congress party has alleged that the BJP government in Odisha has failed to fulfill even a single promise in the past year, and celebrating its one-year anniversary under such circumstances is an insult to the state's people.

Addressing media at Indira Bhawan,New Delhi, the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee President Bhakta Charan Das told reporters, "The country is immersed in grief over the Ahmedabad plane crash, yet the BJP government in Odisha is holding celebrations from June 12 to June 20. Even Prime Minister Modi will attend the closing ceremony of this event."

He accused the state government of celebrating despite not fulfilling any promises. Das claimed, "The condition of healthcare facilities in Odisha is deplorable. Many posts are vacant in almost all districts of the state. There isn’t even one doctor for a population of 12,000. Ayushman cards are being rejected in several state hospitals, forcing people to seek treatment in private hospitals."

Odisha Congress President Bhakta Charan Das further stated, "The public is distressed, farmers are being exploited, there is unemployment in the state, and hospitals are inadequate. At such a time, the government has no right to celebrate. This is a mockery and an insult to the people of the state."

Congress' Odisha in-charge Ajay Kumar Lallu claimed that the BJP had promised a zero-tolerance policy on corruption in the state, but the past year has seen rampant corruption. The BJP formed the government in Odisha last year, ending the over two-decade-long rule of the Biju Janata Dal government led by Naveen Patnaik.

At least 274 people were killed in one of India's deadliest plane crashes involving a London-bound Air India flight in Ahmedabad earlier this week, sources said on Saturday. The casualties, the sources added, include the passengers and crew on board AI 171, and local residents on ground.
