Congress Welcomes Supreme Court’s Decision on SIR, Vows to Protect Voting Rights

(Fast Mail News):-- The Congress party has welcomed the Supreme Court’s order on petitions challenging the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar, stating that the apex court has upheld the Constitution in a clear, strong, and bold manner.

The party vowed to continue its fight to ensure that the public’s right to vote is not taken away. The main opposition party also described the verdict as a ray of hope, asserting that it will expose the Election Commission’s alleged malpractices.

The “vote theft” conducted under the guise of SIR will now be fully revealed, Congress claimed.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, in a post on X, wrote, “The campaign of crores of aware citizens, the Congress party, and Rahul Gandhi has achieved its first success through the Supreme Court’s intervention.

The Election Commission’s argument that Aadhaar and voter ID are not valid for voting has now been recognized by the Supreme Court for the 65 lakh people affected in the SIR case.”

According to Kharge, the Election Commission must now make public the data of the 65 lakh voters removed from the voter list during the SIR in Bihar, which will enhance transparency.

He added, “We welcome the Supreme Court’s decision given in the public interest. The fight will continue, and we will not let the public’s ‘right to vote’ be taken away.”

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, in a post on X, stated, “The Supreme Court has upheld the Constitution of India in a clear, strong, and bold manner. This is a long battle to save our republic from the tactics of the Prime Minister and his supporters, but today’s Supreme Court decision on the Bihar SIR issue is a ray of hope.”

He described the ruling as a significant first step.

Notably, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, the Supreme Court directed the Election Commission to disclose the identities of the 65 lakh voters removed from the draft voter list after the SIR in Bihar by August 19 and submit a compliance report by August 22. The court also instructed the Commission to recognise Aadhaar as valid in the process.
