Dadasaheb Phalke awardee filmmaker K Vishwanath dies at 92

 HYDERABAD:Renowned filmmaker Kasinadhuni Vishwanath, who was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, died in a private hospital on Thursday night. He was 92 years old. K Vishwanath was unwell for some time and was suffering from age related problems.

Popularly known as 'Kala Tapasvi', Vishwanath was born in February 1930 in Andhra Pradesh. A prominent name not only in Telugu cinema but also in Tamil and Hindi films, Vishwanath received the 48th Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2016, the highest honor in Indian cinema.

A release issued from the Chief Minister's Office said that Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao has condoled the demise of Vishwanath.

 

 

 Vishwanath, who started his journey as a sound artist, directed award-winning films like 'Shankarabharanam', 'Sagar Sangamam', 'Swathi Mutyam', 'Saptapadi', 'Kaamchor', 'Sanjog' and 'Jaag Utha Insaan'. . His long career also included an equally successful stint in front of the camera.

His other honors include the Padma Shri in 1992, five National Awards, 20 Nandi Awards (given by the Andhra Pradesh government) and 10 Filmfare trophies including the Lifetime Achievement Award.

K Vishwanath made 50 films since 1965, was a well-known film producer in the Telugu film industry. He was also active in Tamil and Hindi cinema. He debuted as a director with "Aatma Govaram", starring Akkineni Nageswara Rao and won the Nandi Award for Best Feature Film.

The filmmaker then worked with "Chelleli Kapooram", "O Sita Katha", "Jeevan Jyoti" and "Saradha". Vishwanath gained popularity in the mainstream by working in films such as "Swarabhishekam" (which he also directed), "Pandurangadu", "Narasimha Naidu", "Lakshmi Narasimha" and "Seemasimha", "Kuruthipunal", "Kakkai Sirginile" and Also ventured into acting.
