Economic blockade threatened at Talcher on issue of Talcher Medical College

By Jagdanand Pradhan
TALCHER:
Talcher Medical College Kriyanusthan Committee has threatened as the state government has failed  to operate Talcher Medical College and Hospital as per its commitment. The medical college Kriyanusthan committee  has threatened to impose a 48-hour long economic blockade of Talcher Coalfield from November 15.

Keshab Bhutia, the convenor of the Committee said,“We have submitted a memorandum to the Talcher sub collector Manoj Tripathy in this regard. If the state government fails to start Medical College and Hospital we will disrupt coal production and transportation completely in Talcher Coalfield for 48-hours from November 15”.

“ We will paralyze the entire Talcher industrial belt and stop coal production and despatch to grinding halt for the fulfillment of demand to start Medical College and Hospital. It is high time that people of Talcher rise to occasion to protest against the apathy of the state government by not operationalising the medical College and Hospital at Talcher”,he said.

Earlier, the state government had announced to start the medical College And Hospital by October 1st of this year. But now October has gone and November has come in.But there was no sign of government effort to start the medical College and Hospital here at Talcher. This has created widespread resentment not only in Talcher but also in entire district against indiscriminate attitude of the state government.

It is learnt that the state government has appointed one Sudarma Patra as the Superintendent of medical College and Hospital here. The government in collaboration with MCL has decided to start medical College and Hospital from Central Hospital outright. The government has also decided to rope in MCL doctors and paramedical staff into the hospital which is resisted by the MCL workers.

Though the sprawling building of Pabitra Mohan Medical College and Hospital was completed five years ago,the functioning of the Medical College and Hospital is yet to be started most to the resentment of the people of Angul and adjoining districts.

Several attempts were made to contact Talcher sub collector Manoj Tripathy to give his comment. But he didn’t respond to the call.
