Expansion of 3000 MW NTPC Kaniha is on anvil

Angul:Keeping in mind the steep demand of power in the country NTPC is actively considering to expand its exiting power plant at Kaniha very soon.The power major is contemplating to add an additional  8000 Megawatt Unit or 660 Megawatt Unit to its  existing 3000 megawatt capacity Thermal power plants.This was stated by the Head of the Project of NTPC Kaniha A .K.Sehgal while speaking to news men at Kaniha today.

 The Public Sector National Thermal Power Limited(NTPC) is actively examining  the expansion of 3000 Megawatt Kaniha Super Thermal Power Plant due to stiff rise in demand in the country.

 If all goes well then there will be an additional one 800 or 650 Megawatt to its existing  6x500 MW Units.This was stated  by the head of the project of  A K Sehgal to TOI today.He said NTPC Kaniha,the second largest Power Plant of India is currently providing power to 17 Indian states including Odisha.Odisha draws at about 530 Megawatt of power per day from this power plant.

 Stating that the power plant is functioning well with reliability he said the power plant in this financial year aims to be one of the five top five power plants of the country with sustainable power generation. The power plant having six units in the last financial year has achieved   around 88  per cent of Plant Load factor(PLF) and this year it strives to attain the targeted production.

 

 

  The HOP also said that currently five of the six units are generating power with hundred per cent load facilities while unit number six is closed for annual overhauling. The Unit he said had to undergo maintenance after 374 days of operation.

 As regards to coal position,he expressed his satisfaction that there is a coal stock of 7.5lakh tonne of coal to meet  seventeen days of requirement.He said the coal is sourced from Kaniha and Lingaraj mines of Talcher coalfield  of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited.The Head of the project also asserted that there is a priority on environment protection and safety of the workers.He claimed to make out efforts to utilize fly ash emanated from the ash pond.He said NTPC is providing ash to NHAI and  Odisha state as well as releasing some slurry through pipe line to Talcher Coal Mine.

 He said NTPC is taking enough care in CSR activities in the peripheral areas of Kaniha and the district.

 The GM(HR) B.K.Pandey and PRO S.Ghosh  were present on the occasion.
