Imposing 25% tariff on India will be disastrous for our economy: Congress

 By Jagadananda Pradhan
(Fast Mail):--
Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala, reacting to US President Donald Trump’s announcement of imposing a 25% tariff, said, “Imposing a 25% tariff on India, along with penalties, will be disastrous for our economy... Modinomics and Modi diplomacy have failed... Our textiles, clothing, electrical, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, auto components, and other industries will be affected.”

Earlier, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, claimed on Thursday that everyone except Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman knows that India is a ‘dead economy’ and that the Prime Minister has destroyed the economy.

He also claimed that the trade agreement with the United States would be on the terms of US President Donald Trump, and Prime Minister Modi would do whatever the US President says.

Hours after Trump announced a 25 percent tariff on imports from India, he stated in a social media post that India and Russia can take their “ruined economies” to the abyss together, and it makes no difference to him.

Notably, on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump announced a 25 percent tariff on imports from India. Additionally, Trump declared a penalty as a punitive measure on all goods imported from India for importing from Russia. This penalty will be separate from the 25 percent tariff. The decision will take effect from August 1. This announcement was made by Trump on his social media platform ‘Truth Social.’
