Former JDS MP Prajwal Revanna Sentenced to Life Imprisonment in Rape Case, Fined Rs10 Lakh
Revanna, Grandson of Former Prime Minister
Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, son of JDS leader H.D. Revanna, and nephew of Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, was convicted a day earlier by Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat of the MP/MLA Special Court for rape and recording obscene videos. Revanna has been in judicial custody for the past 14 months, with multiple bail pleas rejected by the court.
The case stems from a complaint filed by a domestic worker from KR Nagar, alleging rape and harassment. The victim claimed that the former MP sexually assaulted her and recorded the act.
Given the gravity of the case, the Karnataka government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT presented 26 pieces of concrete evidence in court, including video footage of the assault, the authenticity of which was confirmed through forensic analysis.
Additional Cases Against Revanna
Prajwal Revanna faces FIRs in three other similar cases. During the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he fled the country amid allegations of sexually harassing women and recording their videos.
Following public appeals by former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, he returned to India. On May 31, 2024, Bengaluru police arrested him upon his return.
