India,China pull back troops from Depsang and Demchok on LAC, patrols to begin soon

New Delhi: In a major development, the disengagement between India and China in Depsang and Demchok ,the two points of standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, has been completed following a landmark agreement between India and China.

With this the coordinated patrolling would start soon by both sides and added the ground commanders would continue to hold talks.

According to reports,the Coordinated Patrolling modalities will be decided between ground commanders,". Notably, ground commanders are officers of the rank of Brigadiers and below.

Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said on the completion of troop withdrawal between India and China in Depsang and Demchok and further development of India-China relations, "President Xi and PM Modi reached important consensus after the important meeting. If so, this will be a guideline for the further development of our two countries' relations.

 

 “I just hope that under the guidance of this consensus, our relations will move forward smoothly in the future and that our relations will not have specific disagreements between our two sides. As two neighboring countries, it is quite natural that we have some differences, the most important thing is how to handle and solve these differences. I think it is very important. The meeting between the two leaders has set a very good example for us - how to manage these differences”, he said.

Army sources said that sweets will be exchanged between the two sides on the occasion of Diwali on Thursday. He informed that after the withdrawal of the troops, the verification work is in progress and the patrolling procedures will be decided through discussions between the ground commanders. An army source said that talks are ongoing at the local commander level for this.

According to sources, the outline of the agreement was first signed at the diplomatic level and then negotiated at the military level. He said that the details of the agreement were worked out during the Corps Commander level talks. Following the agreement reached between the two sides, the Indian troops stationed in these areas have started removing their equipment.
