Injured tusker tranquilised in Dhenkanal forest for treatment
According to sources, the injured tusker had been wondering in Aswakhola jungle area for three or four days.He was having three-deep wounds on his body. His movement was slow. The forest squad after spotting the injured elephant had informed higher officials who immediately rushed to the spot and monitored his movement and initiated actions.
According to DFO Sumit Kar,there were wounds on his body and the cause of the wounds is still unclear though there was no bullet in the body.He didn’t rule out poaching and infighting between the two tuskers that might have caused injuries.
DFO said though there is a herd in Aswakhola jungle area consisting of eight to ten elephants, the tusker was alone moving in the forest. How ever, the injured tusker was spotted timely and was given proper treatment after tranquilisation. We have initiated investigations as to how the animal sustained wounds. All the wounds were treated properly and carefully and it is hoped that the elephant will be fully recovered in coming days.
