Massacre in Buddhist monastery of Myanmar, army killed 29 people including three monks

Naypyidaw, Mar 16, (Fast Mail News):-- The army has killed 29 people, including three monks, at a monastery in Myanmar's southern Shan State. Pictures posted online showed several bloodied bodies, including three of Buddhist monks, near the entrance to the village's monastery. There were also bullet marks on the front of the monastery. Rebel groups and the army-backed junta blamed each other for the massacre in Saturday's incident.

The latest incident occurred in Nanneint village on Saturday, just weeks after junta troops allegedly killed 17 villagers in Myinmu township in Sagaing region earlier this month, according to a report. Photos published by the anti-government Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) and independently verified by Myanmar Now clearly show gunshot wounds to the victims' heads and other parts of their bodies.

According to the information, a total of 22 bodies have been recovered since then, while another seven are still feared at the scene. The spokesman said on condition of anonymity for security reasons that there are seven more bodies behind the monastery, which we have not been able to collect yet.

Myanmar has been mired in political violence since military leader Min Aung Hlaing seized power in a 2021 coup, upending any hopes of the Southeast Asian nation of 55 million people becoming a functioning democracy. The coup was followed by one of the most brutal military crackdowns against pro-democracy protesters, which saw civilians being shot in the street. Meanwhile, Myanmar's junta spokesman Major General Zaw Min Tun rejected allegations that the military was responsible.

Myanmar's government agency blamed the militant groups Karen National Police Force (KNPF), People's Defense Force (PDF) and Karen National Progressive for the violence at the monastery.
