Odisha’s first BJP MLA passes away at 79

 DHENKANAL:Odisha’s first BJP MLA Prasanna Patnaik passed away early this morning at a Bhubaneswar-based private hospital at the age of 79.Patnaik was sick for a long time for various age –related diseases and was undergoing treatment for a long time.

Patnaik was first elected MLA from Kamakhyanagar constituency on Janata party ticket from 1977 to 1980.Then he joined BJP and got elected from Kamakhyanagar constituency from 1980 to 1985.Then after he became MLA on Janata Dal ticket from 1990 to 1995.He was three time MLA and was first BJP MLA in the state.

Patnaik died at KIMS hospital early this morning as his mortal remains was brought to his native place Kamakhyanagar and Bhuban where thousands of people offered their tributes to departed leader. As per the report, the body was then sent to Puri Swargadwar for cremation, Patnaik has left his wife and two daughters.

 

 Patnaik was widely popular not only in Kamakhyanagar but also in undivided Dhenkanal district in long time. During his MLAship he set up a number of colleges and high schools in Kamakhyanagar and Bhuban. Kamakhyanagar Mahavidyalay and Bhuban Mahavidyalay among others were his contributions. Not only he provided boosts to education in his constituency but also to infrastructure development like roads and bridges. Reports said Sarangadhar Bridge and Baji Rout Setu on river Brahmani were his contribution.

Expressing grief over his demise Dhenkanal MP Rudranarayan Pani offered his condolences to the bereaved family. In a message Pani said Patnaik was a pride of Bharatiya Janata party and was the MLA from BJP first time in the state. He offered tribute to the departed soul. Similarly crossing the party lines several leaders offered condolences on the death of Prasanna Patnaik.
