26 Naxalites Killed In Encounter between Security Forces and Naxalites In Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh’s Home Minister, Vijay Sharma, confirming the operation stated that more than 26 Naxalites were neutralized, including several prominent figures within the Naxalite ranks. Sharma further noted that one jawan lost his life, while another was injured in the encounter. Search operations in the area remain ongoing to ensure no threats persist.
Among those killed was Nambala Keshava Rao, alias Vasava Raju, a notorious Naxalite leader active in the Narayanpur and Bijapur regions. With a bounty of ?1 crore on his head, his elimination marks a significant blow to the Naxalite movement in the state. However, an official confirmation of his death is still pending. Authorities have indicated that the total number of Naxalites killed in this encounter could rise as operations continue.
Chhattisgarh’s Deputy Chief Minister, Arun Sao,said since the formation of the "double-engine government", consistent progress has been made in combating Naxalites. Security forces have been actively operating in challenging and remote terrains, with over 24 Naxalites eliminated in Narayanpur alone. Sao expressed confidence that Bastar, a region heavily affected by Naxalite activities, would be completely Naxal-free by March 2026.
According to the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), anti-Naxal operations were initiated in 2014, but they gained significant momentum after 2019. To bolster these efforts, joint training programmes have been implemented nationwide, enhancing the strategic and tactical capabilities of security personnel.
The CRPF DG also provided a broader perspective on the decline of Naxalite influence. In 2014, 35 districts across the country were considered hubs of Naxalite activity. Through coordinated efforts between the government and security agencies, this number has been reduced to just six districts by 2025. This reflects a notable decrease in Naxalite violence, underscoring the effectiveness of sustained operations and policy measures.
The encounter in Narayanpur is a testament to the security forces’ resolve to dismantle Naxalite networks in Chhattisgarh. While the loss of a jawan is a somber reminder of the risks involved, the elimination of 26 Naxalites, including a high-value target like Nambala Keshava Rao, marks a critical step forward in the state’s fight against insurgency. With ongoing operations and a clear roadmap to make Bastar Naxal-free by March 2026, Chhattisgarh continues to make strides toward peace and stability.
