Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif Admits Indian Strikes Destroyed Noor Khan Airbase and Other Sites

 NEW DELHI: Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued a statement on Indian Armed Forces' air strike  'Operation Sindoor.'

He confirmed that the Indian military conducted an air strike on the Noor Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi on the night of May 9-10, 2025. The Indian forces targeted multiple Pakistani airbases with missile strikes during the operation.

Sharif made these remarks during a speech at a grand event called "Yaum-e-Tashakur" (Day of Gratitude) held at the iconic "The Monument" in Islamabad. Detailing the sequence of events, he stated that Pakistan subsequently expressed its response to India’s actions.

In his address, Sharif acknowledged India’s claim of targeting the Noor Khan Airbase with missile strikes. He said, "On the night of May 9-10, around 2:30 AM, the army chief informed me via phone that India had attacked us with its ballistic missiles. One missile struck the Noor Khan Airbase, and others hit different areas."

 

 He further revealed that Army Chief General Asim Munir had sought permission to respond with full force to India’s air strike. Following the Indian attack, Pakistan retaliated using drones and missile strikes.

Sharif also highlighted calls for peace talks in his speech. He expressed gratitude to friendly nations that played a significant role in promoting peace and ceasefire in the region, saying, "I am deeply thankful to all friendly countries that have been instrumental in fostering peace and ceasefire in this part of the world."

He extended thanks to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Iran, Turkey, China, the United Kingdom, and other nations for their efforts in de-escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

Sharif particularly praised U.S. President Donald Trump for his intervention during the critical phase of the crisis. He stated, "I would like to thank President Trump for his leadership and his vision that peace must be restored in South Asia as soon as possible. His path breaking and strategic leadership worked and averted a potentially deadly war between the two nations."
