Ashok Gehlot Questions PM Modi's Silence on Trump's Statements, Calls It Dangerous

JAIPUR:Senior Congress leader and former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has sharply criticized the BJP-led central government over its foreign policy, particularly Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on U.S. President Donald Trump's claims regarding the India-Pakistan ceasefire and Kashmir.

Speaking to the media in Jaipur, Gehlot questioned why Modi has not rejected Trump's offer to mediate between India and Pakistan, asserting that India has historically opposed third-party involvement in bilateral issues like Kashmir.

Gehlot highlighted Trump's statements claiming he facilitated a ceasefire and raised issues like Kashmir and trade, which have sparked widespread outrage in India. He stated, "The entire country is furious over Trump's remarks on the ceasefire, Kashmir, or trade. The BJP government fails to grasp this. If such situations persist, the BJP will face consequences." He urged Modi to clarify that no third party will intervene in the Kashmir issue, emphasizing that it remains a matter strictly between India and Pakistan.

Labelling Trump's interference as "dangerous," Gehlot reiterated India's longstanding stance against third-party mediation. "Regardless of which government was in power, India has never tolerated third-party involvement. Whether it's Kashmir or any other issue, we deal directly with Pakistan," he said. He accused Trump of forcibly inserting himself as a mediator and criticized the government for not countering his claims.

Gehlot also accused the BJP of organizing "Tiranga Yatras" to divert attention from the issue, alleging that the government failed to control the damage caused by its silence. He further commented on the controversy surrounding the all-party delegation tasked with presenting India’s perspective on 'Operation Sindoor' globally, alleging that the government indulged in mischief by manipulating the delegation's composition. He called it an opportunity to showcase national unity, which the government undermined.

Expressing concern over the government's lack of transparency, Gehlot said attempts to weaken the opposition in such matters set a poor precedent. He referenced the unity displayed after incidents like the Pahalgam attack, accusing the BJP of engaging in divisive tactics. The Congress, he added, plans to take the issue to the public to expose the government's shortcomings.

Gehlot's remarks echo broader Congress criticism, with leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Pawan Khera also questioning the government's handling of the ceasefire and Trump's role. The opposition continues to demand accountability, alleging that the government's silence compromises India's sovereignty and strategic interests.
