Rahul Gandhi urges Centre to declare Wayanad disaster as a national disaster and give comprehensive rehab pkg
NEW DELHI:Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, speaking on the issue of Wayanad landslide, said that a few days ago he visited Wayanad with his sister Priyanka Gandhi.
He said,” I saw the devastation in Wayanad with my own eyes. The mountain had collapsed for about two kilometers. Whatever stones were there had come down. 200 people died and more than 200 people are missing. More than 400 people have been injured in this disaster.
Rahul Gandhi said he would like to appreciate the work of the central and state government, NDRF, SDRF, Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Fire Department and others and would also like to appreciate the assistance received from neighboring states Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.
The Leader of Opposition said the good thing is that people of all communities in Wayanad helped the victims. Everyone came together there to help. "This is a huge tragedy. I would urge the central government to provide a comprehensive rehabilitation package for Wayanad, which includes creating disaster-resilient infrastructure and helping communities. I would also like to urge the government to declare the Wayanad landslide a national disaster",he said.
