Sonia Gandhi stands in support of women's reservation bill, says this is a poignant moment of my life
On this occasion, she remembered her husband and former PM Rajiv Gandhi saying that this is a very touching moment in my life. For the first time, the constitutional amendment to ensure women's participation in local bodies was brought by my life partner Rajiv Gandhiji, which failed in the Rajya Sabha by 7 votes. Later, it was passed by the Congress government under the leadership of Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. Today, the result is that we have 15 lakh elected women leaders through local bodies across the country. Rajiv Gandhi ji's dream has so far been only half fulfilled. That will be accomplished with the passing of this bill.
