Australia fast bowler Jhye Richardson ruled out of ODI series against India

Perth, Mar 06, (Fast Mail News):-- Australia pacer Jhye Richardson has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against India due to a hamstring injury, starting March 17. Nathan Ellis has been included in the squad in place of Richardson. Richardson is also doubtful to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, in which he is representing Mumbai Indians.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the fast bowler made a comeback in a 50-over match for his club Fremantle against Wanneroo in Perth on Saturday after straining a hamstring in the Big Bash League (BBL) in the first week of January. He could only bowl four overs for Fremantle, taking 3 for 5 before leaving the field and going for scans.

His BBL franchise Perth Scorchers expected him to return for the final, but he took two months to recover from the injury, making him unavailable for the title match. Richardson has also not participated in Marsh Cup or Sheffield Shield cricket. He was named in the ODI squad for the limited leg of Australia's tour of India.

Richardson has endured a horrendous run of injuries in the last two seasons apart from a serious shoulder injury in 2019. In December 2021, he returned from a right shoulder injury against England in Adelaide, taking five wickets. However, he was unable to play in the next Test due to a persistent heel injury and has not played Test cricket since.

He featured in the T20 and ODI series during the 2022 tour of Sri Lanka, but after returning home he could only play in two Sheffield Shield matches and one Marsh Cup match for Western Australia ahead of the BBL.
