Countdown to End Modi Government's 'Corrupt Rule' Begins : Kharge at CWC Meeting

PATNA: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday over several key issues, including "vote theft," and claimed that the Bihar Assembly elections will prove to be a milestone for the country, marking the beginning of the countdown and end of Narendra Modi's "corrupt rule."2025 Bihar Assembly Elections: A Milestone

Kharge said, "The 2025 Assembly elections will not only be a milestone for Bihar but for the entire country. From here, the countdown and beginning of the end of the Modi government's corrupt rule will start."

Mentioning the alleged "vote theft," Kharge said that when official tampering with voter lists is taking place, it is essential that in the cradle of democracy, Bihar, through its extended working committee meeting, we reaffirm our pledge to protect the country's democracy and Constitution.

He said, "Exactly 85 years ago, at the Congress's Ramgarh session, the proposal for the Constituent Assembly was presented for the first time. Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Babasaheb Ambedkar, and the members of the Constituent Assembly together gave the citizens of this country the right to 'one person, one vote.'

He emphasized that fair and transparent elections are the foundation of democracy.

Kharge claimed that serious questions are being raised today about the impartiality and transparency of the Election Commission. He said, "Revelations have come to light in various states. Instead of answering those questions, the Commission is asking us for affidavits."

The Congress President claimed that on the lines of Bihar, a conspiracy is being hatched to cut the votes of lakhs of people across the country.

He said, "Vote theft means—theft of rations, pensions, medicines for Dalits, tribals, backward classes, extremely backward classes, minorities, the weak, and the poor; theft of children's scholarships and exams. Due to the 'Voter Rights Yatra,' awareness has spread among the people of Bihar about this, and they have come out openly in support of Rahul Gandhi."

He also alleged that along with the Modi government at the Center, BJP governments in other states are constantly looking for opportunities to incite religious polarization and communal sentiments.'

Kharge said that 80 percent of Bihar's population belongs to OBC, EBC, and SC/ST categories. The people want a caste census and transparency in reservation policies. The Congress Party and Rahul Gandhi have cornered the central government and forced it to conduct a caste census. In Bihar too, a caste survey was conducted during the tenure of the Congress-led Mahagathbandhan government.

The Congress President said, "I want to ask the Prime Minister, what is the compulsion that the 65% reservation passed by the Bihar government could not be given constitutional protection? History is witness that the Congress government gave constitutional protection to 69 percent reservation for the people of Tamil Nadu thirty years ago. The double-engine government here could not do it."

He said, "The strangest thing was done by the UP Chief Minister, who considers himself the successor to the Prime Minister. He had earlier written articles against reservation. Now, he has imposed a ban on rallies in the name of castes”.

He said,”Will the Prime Minister tell the country that on one hand, we are talking about conducting a caste census, and on the other hand, people who are coming out on the streets against the injustice and atrocities being done to them are being threatened with jail by your Chief Minister? Is this right? You should tell the people."

In his address at the party's extended working committee meeting, Kharge took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi by referring to the recent statements of US President Donald Trump and said, "The Prime Minister, whom he boasts about as 'my friend,' that same friend is today putting India in numerous crises."

The '2025 Assembly Elections' will be a milestone not only for Bihar but for the entire country. From here, the countdown and beginning of the end of the Modi government's corrupt rule will start,Kharge concluded.
