Carcass of 40-year-old female elephant recovered in Satkosia
ANGUL: Satkosia forest officials have recovered a highly decomposed carcass of a 40-year-old female elephant from Baghamunda reserve forest today morning. Forest officials attribute death as a natural death and it occurred a fortnight ago.
The authorities have conducted a post mortem as per the guideline and sent the sample to OUAT for further investigations.
According to report,while Satkosia forest personnel were conducting patrolling at Baghamunda forest area,they came across the carcass of an elephant and informed higher authorities.On being informed Angul RCCF Dr Sanjay Kumar Swain,Satkosia DFO Giridhari Padhy and officials of special task force reached the spot.
RCCF Swain said,the female elephant was presumed of 40-year-old and had died around fortnight.
Citing the views of the opinion of the doctors Swain said it was a natural death.He said the body had been disposed as per the department guidelines in the presence of STF.The frequent occurrence of elephant death in Satkosia reserve has raised concern among the wild life activists.According to an estimate,around 35 elephants had died in a span of last six years.
