Criminal contempt case should be initiated against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey !

NEW DELHI: The controversy over BJP MP Nishikant Dubey's remarks on the Supreme Court is escalating. Advocate Anas Tanvir has written to the country's Attorney General, R. Venkataramani, seeking permission to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against the BJP MP. It should be noted that, as per the rules, permission from the Attorney General is required for contempt cases.

Advocate Anas Tanvir, representing the petitioner in the Waqf Act case, has alleged that Nishikant Dubey made "highly derogatory" remarks aimed at undermining the dignity of the Supreme Court. The petitioner's application states that Nishikant Dubey launched a sharp attack on the Supreme Court, saying that if the Supreme Court is to make laws, then Parliament and state legislatures should be shut down. He also targeted the Chief Justice of India, Sanjiv Khanna, holding him responsible for civil war in the country. The letter describes Dubey's remarks as "gravely insulting" and "dangerously provocative."

Earlier, the Congress had termed the BJP's attempt to distance itself from the criticism of the Supreme Court by its MPs Nishikant Dubey and Dinesh Sharma as "damage control" and questioned why no action was taken against the two. Jairam Ramesh had stated that the "outgoing BJP president's" distancing from the "despicable remarks" made by the two MPs against the Chief Justice of India holds no significance.
