Dhenkanal: 63-year-old tribal woman killed on suspicion of sorcery
DHENKANAL: On the suspicion of sorcery, a youth in tribal village Pitaldhua under Kankadahad police station allegedly killed a 63-year-woman today. The murder occurred at about 9.30 am in the village. The deceased has been identified as Sindhi Sinku of that village while the accused is Damodar Purty.They both belong to Jharana Sahi of that village and were distant relatives.
According to police,Damodar had suffered a long illness after which he was suspected of sorcery by Sinku. Enraged over the alleged susery practice Damodar today morning had brought a bow and arrow and fired at the chest of Sinku.Sinku was sitting outside her house while, the arrow pierced through her chest. The villagers called ambulances which took time to reach the remote village.By that time Sinku had died.
On being informed kamakhyanagar DSP Gyanranjan Mishra and Kankadahad IIC Kalpana Behera reached the village with scientific team.They sent the body for post mortem and conducted investigations.Police how ever, caught the accused Damodar and detained him for interrogation.
“We immediately reached the village after getting a report that a woman had been killed by her fellow villagers with an arrow.We found the woman dead and sent the body for post mortem.We also immediately caught the accused and brought to police station for interrogation.He will be forwarded today or tomorrow”,said DSP Mishra.
