Durga Puja Festivities Grip Talcher-Angul Industrial Region
TALCHER/ANGUL: Festive fever grips Angul-Talcher industrial areas on a large scale with thousands of people thronging puja mandaps spreading over various collieries and industrial towns. At Talcher,the coal employees are very much buoyant as they get rupees 85,000 puja bonus this year.The revellery knows no bound in every house of the coal miners and in the adjoining village of Talcher.
Puja mandaps are erected in Deulbera,Lingaraj,Dera South Balanda,Bharatpur,Nandira coal township areas.The idols at Deulbera and Dera are made by artists from outside states like West Bengal.Police also have made elaborate arrangements to control traffic and maintain law and order warning people against pick picketers.
At,Deulbera a coal worker Sarat Pradhan said this year a magnificent idol has been erected in Mandap with artists from West Bengal. This year opera is being held in mandap on this occasion where hundreds of people are coming to witness. We were also very happy that the central government has given us the highest ever puja bonus of 85,000 per head.Aso contract workers working in colliery have got their puja bonus.On the whole, the atmosphere in the coal mines area and in its colonies are of joy and happiness.
Deulbera colliery colony mandap,is one of the oldest puja mandap and the puja celebration started here in the year 1932 by some Bengalis who were working with then Bengal Nagpur Railway(BNR) company.
The importance of Durga Puja at Talcher is attributed to the fact that the coal miners believe that if they worship Goddess Durga the production of coal would be increased and they get blessings of the mother goddess too to protect their families.
At Angul,various puja committees have put up huge pandals this year.Puja mandaps have been set up at places like Amalapada,Hulurisingha,Bus Stand, Similipada,Hemasurpara,PTC, Ranigoda,,Gandhi Marg and Susuda areas and are being celebrated with much pomp and gaiety.
The interior decorations of each puja mandap wore a colourful look with different shapes of idols of goddess Durga. At night the sky is filled up with shades and different colours of lights and people enjoy it to the maximum.
According to sources,the immersion will take place on Wednesday for which elaborate arrangements by the administration and the police have been held.
