Four year-old male elephant dies in Satkosia
ANGUL: Satkosia Wildlife Sanctuaries authorities have recovered a carcass of around four year-old male tusker at Kantarsingha under Pampasar forest range on Friday morning.The body was lying on a bush without an injury and having tusk intact.Senior forest officials rushed to the spot and started investigations into the death.
According to report,the forest patrolling party on morning of Friday spotted a body of a four-year baby elephant at Kartartarsingha under Pampasar forest range.They immediately informed the DFO of Satkosia forest division who immediately rushed to the spot and found the elephant had not missed its tusks.He immediately called vertinery officials of Satkosia and neighbouring Bantala to examine the body.Then the post mortem was conducted by the doctors and the samples were sent to OUAT for further test.
The DFO Panda said the death of the elephant might have caused due to illness ruling out poaching as there was injury marks on his body.He said, the male elephant might have died two or three days before due to health problem.he also said that the post mortem has been conducted and after the report is available the exact cause of the death could be determined.
The repeated elephant deaths in Satkosia in past years have raised concerns among the animal lovers in the state who demand adequate steps to stop this death.
