Jaysukh Patel, MD of Oreva Company, surrenders before court in Morbi bridge collapse incident
Jaysukh Patel, managing director (MD) of Oreva Group in the Morbi suspension bridge accident, filed an anticipatory bail plea in the Morbi Sessions Court, which was scheduled to be heard in the High Court on February 1.
Earlier, he appeared before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court at around 3 pm on Tuesday and surrendered. After surrendering in court, the accused was handed over to the police. It is believed that the police will seek the remand of Jaisukh Patel, the 10th accused in the Morbi Bridge accident. Jaisukh Patel's name was not initially filed as an accused in the case, but after the court took suo motu cognizance, he was made the main accused under pressure of hearing and constant surveillance.
It is alleged that Jaisukh Patel did not even obtain the stability certificate regarding the strength of the bridge from the technical institute. The repair of the bridge was done by local fabricators instead of technical staff. The charge sheet also mentions that the Oreva Group did not even cooperate in rescue operations after the accident.
The 140-year-old suspension bridge over the Machchu river near Mani Mandir in Morbi collapsed on October 30, 2022 at 6:32 pm. 135 people were killed in this accident. According to the information, more than 400 people were present on the bridge at the time of the accident, while the presence of more than 100 people on the bridge was in danger.
