PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to support Nawaz Sharif's Party

ISLAMABAD:Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has withdrawn from the race for the Prime Minister's post. Addressing a press conference after PPP's Central Executive Committee meeting in Islamabad, he said that his party would support the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's (PML-N) candidate for the Prime Minister's post without being part of the government. Mr Bhutto also said that PPP has decided to form a committee to engage with other political parties for the formation of a government and political stability.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-N spokesperson said that party leader Nawaz Sharif has nominated his brother Shahbaz Sharif for the post of Prime Minister. The spokesperson also said that Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam Nawaz will take on the role of Punjab CM, a post earlier filled by Shehbaz Sharif.

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) founder and jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan dismissed the idea of forming a coalition government with any of the main political parties. While interacting with journalists at the high-security Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Mr Khan said that there can be no alliance with PML-N, PPP and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) terming them as the biggest money launderers.

Imran Khan’s PTI and its affiliates won the most seats in the final tally published on Sunday, securing 95 of 264 seats. Ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s PML-N came second with 75 seats and former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's PPP with 54 seats. With no single party winning a majority, negotiations are ongoing to form a coalition government.
