‘Super Premium Frequent Flyer PM is in Ghana today’ : Jairam Ramesh

 (Fast Mail News):-- Amid Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ghana,on Wednesday, the Congress highlighted the warm relationship between former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Ghana’s former President Kwame Nkrumah.

As he embarked on a week-long trip to five countries, including Brazil, Prime Minister Modi said on Wednesday that India is committed to BRICS as a vital platform for cooperation among emerging economies.

Modi is traveling to attend the BRICS Summit in Brazil and to strengthen India’s ties with several key Global South countries. During this trip, he will visit Brazil, Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, and Namibia.

Ramesh posted on X, “The Super Premium Frequent Flyer Prime Minister is in Ghana today. Until the mid-1960s, Kwame Nkrumah dominated Ghana and indeed African politics, a towering figure. He shared a very warm relationship with Jawaharlal Nehru, which began well before Ghana’s independence in March 1957.”

 

 He noted that in Accra, a prominent road named after Nehru hosts the ‘India House,’ while in New Delhi, the Diplomatic Enclave has a road named Kwame Nkrumah Marg.

According to Ramesh, Nkrumah visited India from December 22, 1958, to January 8, 1959. He travelled to New Delhi, Mumbai, Nangal, Chandigarh, Jhansi, Agra, Bengaluru, Mysuru, and Pune, spending five days alone in Bengaluru and Mysuru.

He made special visits to the Trombay Atomic Energy Establishment, the National Physical Laboratory, the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, the Bhakra Nangal Dam, and the National Defence Academy.

Ramesh added that during Nkrumah’s extended visit, India provided assistance for the establishment of the Ghana Air Force.He further noted that a few years later, Nehru inaugurated the African Studies Department at Delhi University.
