60 deer held captive in Nalco released into Kandhara jungle by Dhenkanal authorities

 DHENKANAL: Around 60 deers who were confined in an enclosure in Nalco township have been successfully shifted to Kandhara reserve forest by Dhenkanal forest authorities recently. Among the 60 deer 22 are male and 38 are female.

By flouting laws Nalco authorities had kept these deers for years together under the nose of the forest department.

As per the decision, first  a health check up were made of the deers in Nalco and then shifting started from July 15.It continued two days in four stages.The animals were transported in specialised vehicles,according to sources.

 

 After shifting the deers,Dhenkanal forest authorities had kept them in a specialised enclosure in Kanjara for some days before releasing them into the wild. The deers were given food regularly in the enclosure and their health were being constantly monitored by the authorities by installing CCTV cameras as it   was  a soft release. The deers were kept in enclosure for monitoring before they were released into jungle.After some days, all the 60 deers were released to Kandhara reserve forest of Hindol range

Dhenkanal DFO Sumit Kar described it as an arduous task keeping in view no harm to any of the deers while in transportation and in enclosure. Shifting were done in three stages. He stated the first enclosure was constructed over tree hectares of land.The transportation were done into the enclosure and finally they were released to forest.

The DFO also said that the deer after being released from captivity, are now spending a free life in the dense forest of Kandhara.
