Bihar: Congress launches ‘Palayan Roko,Naukari Do Padayatra’
PATNA: On Sunday, the Congress launched a statewide ‘Padayatra’ in Bihar themed ‘Palayan Roko,Naukari Do Padayatra’, highlighting the widespread unemployment in the state and blamed the government for the large-scale migration of youth.
The Congress’ Padayatra began from Bhitiharwa Ashram in West Champaran district. This ashram was established nearly a century ago by Mahatma Gandhi when he initiated his first ‘Satyagraha’ in the country. Through that movement, Mahatma Gandhi had championed the rights of workers involved in indigo farming in North Bihar.
On the occasion, the Bihar unit president of Congress, Akhilesh Prasad Singh, was presented with a national flag symbolically by party workers. Among others participated in the Padayatra were National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) national in-charge Kanhaiya Kumar, NSUI president Varun Choudhary, Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib, and All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Bihar affairs, Krishna Allavaru.
The Palayan Roko,Naukari Do’ Padayatra is being viewed in political circles as an effort by the Congress to strengthen its position ahead of the assembly elections scheduled for later this year.
The party is likely to contest the elections in alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Left parties. The Padayatra will pass through various districts of Bihar and conclude in Patna.
