Crocodile dies in Satkosia gorge
ANGUL: Satkosia forest officials had spotted a carcass of a two-year-old mugger at Baliput Section of Satkosia gorge today. A crocodile which was 2 to 3 feet long and apparently died days ago and its body was discovered in a decomposed manner.
Forest officials attribute the cause of the death to either infighting or illness. They are tight-lipped about the cause of the death of the crocodile in the gorge area.
Satkosia wildlife sanctuary DFO Saroj Panda said, the forest patrolling staff in the morning detected the carcass of a crocodile at the bank of the Satkosia gorge belonging to the Narsinghpur area. They informed the senior officials and veterinary doctors of Satkosia who rushed to the spot and conducted the investigation. Body was in a decomposed state and was post mortem by the team of veterinary doctors of Satkosia. The samples were sent to OUAT for further test.
Panda said the death might have been caused either due to infighting or illness. He said there are more than hundred muggers in Satkosia gorge. He maintained all the gharial in the gorge are safe and sound.
