Murder of Dalit in Raebareli a Stain on the Nation – Kharge
In a statement on his social media platform X, Kharge said, “Our country has a Constitution that recognizes every individual with equality. What happened in Raebareli is a crime against the Constitution, the Dalit community, and our society. It is a stain on the nation.”
Kharge expressed concern over the alarming increase in violence against Dalits, minorities, and the poor in the country. He said such violence disproportionately targets those who lack adequate representation or participation.
He said, “Whether it’s the incidents in Hathras and Unnao, the murder of Hariom Valmiki in Raebareli, the institutional death of Rohith Vemula, the incident of a tribal youth being urinated on in Madhya Pradesh, or the killing of Pehlu Khan in Haryana—each case reflects the growing insensitivity of our society and those in power.”
Attack on ‘Mob Lynching and Bulldozer Politics’
The Congress president remarked that since 2014, trends like mob lynching, bulldozer injustice, and mobocracy have become commonplace in the country. He stated that such trends cannot be the hallmark of a civilized society. He added, “What happened to Hariom is a profound question mark on our collective morality. It is an attack on the spirit of humanity and justice.”
In his post, Kharge wrote that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s vision of India and Mahatma Gandhi’s concept of ‘Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye’ are rooted in social justice, equality, and compassion. He emphasised that the Congress party stands firmly against such crimes and is committed to the empowerment of marginalized sections. “The fight will continue until the dignity and rights of every Indian are protected.
Kharge stated that the government must answer for the rising crimes against Dalits and vulnerable sections. He appealed to the public, saying, “We must all unite against this injustice. This fight must continue until the dignity and rights of every Indian are fully protected.”
