Delhi Elections: Campaigning to end this evening for February 5 battle
The Bharatiya Janata Party has intensified its efforts to capture power in the national capital after more than 25 years and has planned to hold 22 road shows and rallies across Delhi on the last day of the election campaign.
On the other hand, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) seems confident of gaining power for the third consecutive time, relying on its model of free welfare schemes.
The Congress, which was in power in the national capital for 15 years till 2013, could not win a single seat in the last two elections, so it is trying to strengthen itself at the grassroots level.
In this battle, political parties made extensive use of posters prepared with artificial intelligence (AI) along with rhetoric to target each other and tried to woo the public through road shows.
According to the Election Commission's Model Code of Conduct (MCC), all public meetings, election related programs and campaigning must stop 48 hours before voting. According to the Election Commission, dissemination of promotional material through cinema, TV and print media is also prohibited during this period.
In this election, a war of words was also seen between various political parties. While 'AAP' called BJP 'Bharatiya Jhoot Party' and 'Gali Galooz Party', Prime Minister Narendra Modi retaliated by calling 'AAP' 'AAP-Da' and its chief Arvind Kejriwal 'Announcement Minister'.
According to the data of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi, 1.56 crore voters are eligible to exercise their franchise at 13,766 polling stations on February 5. Of these, 83.76 lakh are men, 72.36 lakh are women and 1,267 are 'third gender' voters. To make the voting process smooth, 733 polling stations have been designated for the disabled.
The Election Commission has also launched the 'Queue Management System' (QMS) application for the first time in India, through which voters can find out the presence of people at polling stations in real time through the 'Delhi Election-2025 QMS' app.
Under the facility of voting from home for senior citizens and disabled people, 6,980 out of 7,553 eligible voters have already cast their vote. The service began on January 24 and will continue till February 4.
220 companies of paramilitary forces, 19,000 home guards and 35,626 Delhi Police personnel will be deployed to ensure free and fair elections. Apart from this, 21,584 ballot units, 20,692 control units and 18,943 Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) have been prepared, including provisions for 'dummy' and Braille ballots.
The AAP dominated the 2020 elections with 62 seats, while the BJP won eight seats and the Congress once again failed to open its account.
