Even after 45 years,Nalco is facing land loosers strike

ANGUL:Even after 45 years of inception the job issues of land oustees haunts pubic sector national Aluminium Company(Nalco).

Hundreds of land Nalco oustees and ITI trained youths are on indefinite dharna in front of Angul collectorate demanding permanent jobs in the company. The youths resorted to dharna after holding a large demonstration yesterday before the collectorate. Nalco oustees from 39 villages spreading over Talcher and Angul sub-division have participated in march and dharna.

The dharna is continuing under the banner of Nalco Khyatigrasta Praja Sangha. The Praja Sangha President Divya Ranjan Das and General Secretary Sank Sekhar Samal are leading the strike.

According to Sangha leaders, though the lands of these 39 villages have been acquired decades ago for Nalco, the oustees are still struggling for permanent jobs in Nalco when the company is fulfilling the vacancies by recruitment. They said many of the ITI trained oustees of these villages have been denied permanent jobs in the company.

Though there were a series of meetings with the state government and Nalco, there was no fulfilment of their demands. The Sangha leaders said, stating that if necessary they will go for fast-unto death.

Supporting the agitation, the convener of Talcher-Angul Banchao Andolan(TABA) Jagadananda Pradhan urged Nalco to meet their demands or otherwise there will be larger agitation.Nalco has always neglected the land oustees since the project established here,Pradhan alleged. Similarly former Dhenkanal MP Mahesh Sahoo has urged Nalco and state government to provide immediate employment to the land loosers.

Angul ADM Uday Mohapatra has said the district administration has conveyed about the ongoing-dharna by its land loosers. When contacted the executive director of Nalco N Subhramaniyam said,”We got a letter from Special LAO along with the representation from the subject group. We are going through the same and submit response in due course”,ED said.
