After 47 years,Russia had launched its Luna- 25 mission to land the Lander on the south pole of the moon . But the Lander has been destroyed after colliding with the moon. Initially, the Russian Space Agency had told that a glitch had occurred in Luna-25. “Its failure is a big blow”,experts said.

Russia launched the mission involving landing the Lander on the moon after 47 years. But there is bad news for Russia as it's Luna-25 mission has failed. Russia's spacecraft went out of control and crashed on the surface of the moon. The Russian space agency Roscosmos had earlier told that a glitch had occurred in Luna-25 while going into the pre-landing orbit. But after some time it became clear that the communication with Luna-25 was completely broken.

Roscosmos said in a statement that the Lander entered an unexpected orbit and collided with the lunar surface. As a result, it no longer exists. The statement further said that the landing was to take place on Monday, but before that it was shifted to the pre-landing orbit on August 20. The failure of Luna-25 is a big blow for Russia. That's because it was going to be Russia's first major mission in post-Soviet times.

In fact, in Soviet times, there was a space race between Russia and America. Then the world's most prestigious space agency belonged to the Soviet Union. The world's first satellite Sputnik-1 was launched by the Soviet Union whereas Yuri Gagarin of the Soviet Union was the first person to go into space in 1961. Apart from this, Luna 1 of Russia was the first impactor spacecraft that reached the moon. And Luna-2 was the first Lander to successfully land on the moon. Russia once again wanted back the prestige it had during the Cold War.

Big Blow to Putin

The Soviet Uion had launched their last mission, Luna-24, in 1976. Through this mission, 170 grams of moon stones were brought to the earth. According to Russian space officials, Luna-25 was to land on the moon on August 21. Apart from this, Russia launched this at a time when it is fighting a war with Ukraine. The European Space Agency (ESA) was involved in the Luna mission before the start of the war. But when Russia attacked Ukraine, the egency pulled it’s hand. Putin wanted to show through this mission that without the help of the West, Russia can achieve success in the space mission.
