38 killed in J&K's Doda bus mishap

 SRINAGAR:At least 38 persons were killed and several others injured when a bus they were traveling in plunged into a 3000 feet deep gorge in the Assar area of mountainous Doda region of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said.

According to reports,on Wednesday there were about 40 passengers in the bus. The bus skidded off the road near Trungal-Assar on the Batote-Kishtwar National Highway and fell into a gorge 300 feet below.

Eyewitnesses said,the bus carrying passengers slipped off the road and fell into a 300 feet deep gorge in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.

 

 

 Jammu Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar said,”The registration number of the bus is JK02CN-6555. There were about 40 passengers in the bus. The bus skidded off the road near Trungal-Assar on the Batote-Kishtwar National Highway and fell into a gorge 300 feet below. He said that rescue operations have been started and some bodies have been recovered.

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh informed on 'X' that he has spoken to DC Harvinder Singh of Doda that there has been a bus accident in Assar, Doda. All the injured have been admitted to Kishtwar hospital.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his condolences. 'The bus accident in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir is distressing. My condolences to the families who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest," the PMO posted on X. It added that the Prime Minister has said that an ex-gratia of ? 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund would be given to the families of those killed in the accident. Those injured will receive an assistance of ? 50,000.
