After ruckus, Delhi MCD Mayor Election to be held again today

NEW DELHI:After the ruckus on january 6,the mayoral election for MCD,Delhi is going to be held again today.More than 200 security personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order during the election. Earlier, the election of the mayor could not be held due to the ruckus in the municipal corporation meeting held on January 6. The proceedings of the House will begin at 11 am at the Civic Center where all councilors will be sworn in first and then voting will take place. Ballot papers of different colors are kept for the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

A meeting of councilors will be held today at the municipal corporation headquarters of Delhi again to elect the mayor of the municipal corporation. Three weeks ago the first meeting of the newly elected councilors was adjourned due to a heated debate over the oath of aldermen. The proceedings were adjourned to a later date amid much uproar. Both the main stakeholders of MCD - Aam Aadmi Party and BJP are making maximum efforts to get as many members from their party as Mayor and Standing Committee. AAP has fielded Shelly Oberoi and BJP's Rekha Gupta for the post of mayor, while Aale Mohammad Iqbal of AAP and Kamal Bagri of BJP are in the fray for the post of deputy mayor.

Who will vote in the mayor's election?

 

 

 Apart from 250 councilors, 14 MLAs of the Delhi Assembly are also nominated to vote in the mayoral election.

For this, the Assembly Speaker has nominated 13 MLAs from the Aam Aadmi Party and one from the BJP.

All 7 Lok Sabha MPs of BJP and all 3 Rajya Sabha MPs of Aam Aadmi Party from Delhi will also vote.

That is, there will be a total of 274 members in the Electoral College for the election of the Mayor.

Historic victory of AAP in Delhi MCD

The Aam Aadmi Party won the MCD elections in December, ending the BJP's 15-year rule. In the 250-member MCD, the Aam Aadmi Party won 134 seats, while the BJP won 104 seats, while the Congress won 9 and others 3. Congress has announced to distance itself from the mayoral election, which means that in today's mayoral election, there will be a total of 150 members of the Aam Aadmi among the 274 electorate members.
