The government has imposed smog emergency in Punjab province of Pakistan after the Lahore High Court's order to immediately impose "smog emergency" in Lahore. Everyone has been instructed to wear masks for at least 1 month,it is said.
The caretaker government of Pakistan's Punjab province on Wednesday imposed a "smog emergency" in the state, as its capital Lahore remains one of the most polluted cities in the world. The government took the decision in the wake of the Lahore High Court's order to immediately impose "smog emergency" in Lahore due to the air quality index continuing to remain hazardous.
According to the report of global air quality monitoring platform 'IQ Air', the air quality index (AQI) in the provincial capital Lahore reached 447 on Monday. It is considered safe to breathe air when AQI is below 50. Punjab's acting Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi said, "Smog emergency has been imposed across Punjab and wearing of masks has been declared mandatory for boys and girls in all government and private schools for a month."
